My Story

Throughout my career, I have been lucky to work alongside talented, committed individuals in caring for patients with cancer. While I learned from my colleagues, my patients also taught me about resilience, the strength of the human spirit and what their needs were. My own experience advocating, counseling, and being part of my mother’s and brother’s cancer journeys identified unmet needs of patients navigating cancer. These are the foundation on which The Cancer Care Concierge was built.

I admire the oncologists and teams who treat patients daily and truly get them through the most difficult times. My role for these patients was to support, identify risk factors and prevention strategies, and to maximize quality of life. After all, there is a difference between living and surviving. While I did not necessarily see patients at their physical worst times, I did see them at their emotional low points-loss of fertility, fear of recurrence, living a “new normal”. Being part of someones cancer journey is difficult, but it is also a privilege to be in a person’s inner circle during such vulnerable times.

After earning her medical degree from the University of Toronto, Dr Castiel completed an OBGYN residency at the same institution. She is a reviewer for Cancer Control and the Journal of Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology. Dr. Castiel has served as a member of the Menopause Society’s Education Committee, an abstract reviewer for the 2025 and 2026 annual meeting, has served on ASCO’s Health Equity and Outcomes Committee and continues on its Cancer Survivorship Task Force. She is also a member of Blood Cancer United’s Leadership Development Committee and a Visionary of the Year for the 2026 campaign.
